i would never kill anyone. not because god says so, or that its punishable by death in this country; or that the guilt from taking away a life with marr my entire existence, if i felt it. i think it is easiest to kill somebody you don't know, a stranger. somebody who's life is not inextricable intwined with yours. a life which hasn't touched yours. its selfish, but it makes killing easier during war. it makes it easier to blow hundreds of people up in a subway station. nameless faces, nameless bodies. i can even undestand how easy it is to bring a gun to school and spray bullets on people you know for half a second or none at all. perhaps even easier because you don't know what you know and its always a matter of imagination to conjour images of people in your head. exactly how you believe them to be.
i would never kill anyone because it would make my life inextricable from theirs. i would be the one who put the date on their gravestone. i would have decided exactly when, where and how they would have died. my name would be on the lips of their brothers, sisters, mothers and fathers. i would be condemned by their friends. people will think of my face when they hear the name of the dead. but then again, you don't have that problem with strangers.
